Police on hunt for ATM raiders

- RYAN THOM

An ATM in a fuelling station was targeted by crooks in a late-night raid.

Police have stepped up the hunt for two men who attempted to steal cash from the stand-alone machine at the Shell garage in Prestwick Road, Ayr, on Sunday around 11.45pm.

It’s understood two suspects used a chain and dragged the ATM off its foundations but, despite their efforts, left empty-handed.

Police have described both men as wearing dark clothing and they fled in a white Ford Transit pick-up.

Officers are asking anyone who may have dash-cam footage to get in touch as they seek to trace those responsible.

Detective Inspector, Andrea Templeton, said:“We believe this was a targeted break-in and those involved left empty-handed. We’re keen to speak to anyone in that area at the time.”

Witnesses should contact police on 101, quoting incident number 4172.
