Academy welcomes newhead

Ayr’s largest secondary school welcomed a new head teacher on Monday.

Kevin Boyd took over the reins at Belmont Academy from previous boss Tracy Stewart.

Mr Boyd, who was the head teacher at Strathaven Academy in South Lanarkshir­e, is returning to his roots in South Ayrshire having been a pupil at Ayr Academy and latterly worked in the area.

His vast experience includes working at Prestwick Academy for 15 years where he undertook a variety of roles from principal teacher of maths to acting head teacher.

Mr Boyd said: “I look forward to working with all members of the Belmont Academy community to deliver positive outcomes for all young people.

“Belmont Academy is a fantastic school with many strengths, and I relish the opportunit­y to lead the community on its journey to excellence.”

Councillor William Grant, the council’s spokesman for children and young people, said: “I am delighted to welcome Kevin back to South Ayrshire. It’s clear he has vast experience and will be a great asset to the school.

“Belmont’s last inspection report was particular­ly strong, and I am sure Kevin will continue this success.”
