Phoenix night to pay tribute to MacColl

Ayr Phoenix Folk Club have a special treat in store for music lovers next month.

For Jimmy Ross and Finlay Allison will take centre stage for a night to celebrate the work of the great Ewan MacColl.

A club spokespers­on said:“Jimmy and Finlay, following their great presentati­on of the life and times of Pete Seeger back in 2019, return to Ayr Phoenix Folk Club.

“Ewan was a major figure in the Folk Revival as singer, songwriter, collector, playwright and socialist activist.

“He introduced generation­s to traditiona­l music via his recordings and books, and his powerful songs, including the famous Radio Ballads. Jimmy and Finlay will present in song, story and pictures a celebratio­n of his life and legacy. Another fascinatin­g night is assured.”

The event takes place at the Ayr Ex-Services Club, Academy Street, Ayr, on Tuesday, March 1.

The audience is asked to attend at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. Pay at door tickets will cost £9. Phone 01292 280075 to reserve seats.
