Storms postpone charity camp out

-

A charity camp out in Ayr was postponed at the weekend due to the stormy weather battering Scotland.

Ayrshire Cancer Support’s‘Camp Out for Cancer - Extreme at Ayr Racecourse’ event has been put back to next month due to forecasted strong winds.

The charity announced on its Facebook page that it was too risky to go ahead with the fundraiser and have set a new date of Saturday, March 19.

“There’s no such thing as bad news - just bad weather!,”Ayrshire Cancer Support said.

“We are still catching part of Storm Dudley at the weekend in Ayr, especially early Sunday morning, and unfortunately this means it is too high risky to go ahead with Camp Out for Cancer - Extreme at Ayr Racecourse.

“Due to the very strong winds forecast, the structural set-up of the lighting towers, staging and campsite would be a danger.

“The safety of our campers, staff and event suppliers must always come first.

“We look forward to welcoming those registered on Saturday, March 19 and would like to thank those participating for being so accommodating with the move.”

Those swapping their comfy beds for the cold ground in aid of the charity include mum-of-two Hayleigh Lawrie, 27, who will be camping out in memory of her mum Lee-Ann Rankin, who passed away on January 23 last year from incurable cancer aged just 48.
