Fairtrade Fortnight support
Schools were being urged to get involved in Fairtrade Fortnight that began on Monday.
Fairtrade Fortnight highlights the role of Fairtrade in promoting fairer and more sustainable trading practices.
Fairtrade Fortnight also has a dedicated schools programme, with three tiers of Fairtrade award open for applications from schools.
Sharon Dowey MSP, whose role as Shadow Minister for International Development is to promote and support Fairtrade practices across Scotland, said: “I want to encourage all schools in South Ayrshire to get on board with the scheme if they’ve not already done so.
“Fairtrade Fortnight deals with some really important issues like sustainability and food security so please consider getting involved.”
The South Scotland Conservative MSP added: “Your school can take part by doing things like recycling plastics and paper, holding assemblies or selling Fairtrade goods.
“We’ve just had COP26 last year so what better time to start your school’s Fairtrade journey.”
