GARRY’S MEDAL HOPE

-

A bowler who feared he’d never walk again has capped an emotional return to the Scotland Commonwealth Games team – 28 years after his first appearance.

Craigie Bowling Club’s Garry Hood said he could have cried when he was selected for this summer’s showpiece.

Gary, 61, has been included in the eight-strong Scotland Para Lawn Bowls team for Birmingham.

He finished seventh in the Men’s Fours at Victoria 1994, playing alongside the legendary Willie Wood.

Now, after a brave battle back from rare illness Guillain-Barré Syndrome and Lyme Disease, he will once again pull on the colours of Team Scotland.
