Brownbin permits areback

-

East Ayrshire Council’s controversial brown bin permits are back on sale again.

The local authority announced last week that the paid-for garden waste service has re-launched.

Green-fingered residents in Cumnock, Auchinleck and Doon valley have to fork-out £30 per bin, per year with many residents railing against the plans last year.

Furious residents launched a petition to get the charge scrapped last year with more than 7000 campaigning against the permit.

While the council did climb down on some aspects of the fee, the scheme was to remain in place. The four-weekly collection service runs from March to November each year. Residents receive a permit sticker and have to place it on the receptacle so that crews know which bins can be collected. With the permit, residents are able to recycle the following items: grass cuttings, small twigs and branches, leaves, cut flowers, houseplants, weeds, hedge clippings, sawdust, bark, hay. Residents who no longer want to pay for the service can request to have their bin removed.
