Bare chest teen broke man’s nose in attack

- BY ABI SMILLIE

A bare chested teenager broke a man’s nose in a brutal assault.

The 17-year-old, from Auchinleck, who can not be identified due to his age, launched an attack on the victim after a dispute on March 2 last year.

Ayr Sheriff Court heard the assault followed a gathering at a property in Mill Square, Catrine, which was a popular drinking spot for youngsters.

Depute fiscal Mhairi Mair said: “[The victim] lives alone and is, by his own admission, an alcoholic.

“He regularly lets youths in his property to drink alcohol.

“The accused and former co-accused went to the flat to drink.”

The court heard the teenager left the house but was then followed by the complainer who was holding a knife.

The teen’s former coaccused – whose not guilty pleas were accepted by the prosecutor – managed to kick the knife away before the 17-year-old accused launched his attack.

He repeatedly punched the complainer on the head and body, knocked him to the ground and kicked him on the head and body.

By this point a crowd had gathered and the accused was bare chested.

The complainer managed to get up and ran to a nearby house for help.

The complainer, who was later said to be ‘uncooperative,’ was taken to Ayr Hospital (pictured above) and treated for a broken nose, where the bone was protruding.

He sustained a one-inch laceration to the bridge of his nose and swelling and bruising.

The teenager later told police: “I walked away from the flat.

“It was his party. He was carrying a knife.”

The teen admitted forcing entry to the property on Mill Square in Catrine, assaulting the victim by repeatedly punching him on the head and body, knock him to the floor, and when he was on the floor kick him on the head and body, all to the victim’s severe injury.

He will reappear next month for sentencing.
