Eye charity work praised by MSP

-

Ayr MSP Siobhian Brown has praised the charity work of the Ayrshire Eye Foundation in their efforts to bolster good eye health.

Ms Brown was given a tour of the Ayrshire Eye Clinic in Ayr, by Professor Srinivasan, Medical Director of Ayrshire Eye Clinic and founding Trustee of Ayrshire Eye Foundation, and was told about the work the foundation does all over the world to help eliminate common causes of curable blindness, such as cataract and corneal blindness.

Now the charity is working alongside Ayrshire’s opticians to help identify those who need urgent cataract treatment but who may have an extended wait as the NHS moves back to full capacity.

Siobhian Brown MSP said: “The reality is that because of the pandemic NHS eye services will take some time to recover. To

have the Ayrshire Eye Foundation step in to help is wonderful.

“They’ll be getting referrals from local opticians for patients who need good eye health to help them drive or look after a loved one.

“I want to commend the team at the Ayrshire Eye Foundation who want to make a difference to the lives of people living right on our doorstep and I thank them for working hard to help the NHS cope with demand.”

Professor Srinivasan added: “It was a pleasure to have Ayr MSP Siobhian Brown take time out of her busy schedule to visit us at Ayrshire Eye Clinic. I was delighted to show her our state-of-the-art facility and also discuss with her the charity work of Ayrshire Eye Foundation. I sincerely thank her for her interest and support.”
