Ayr MSP Siobhian Brown has signed a statement calling for an immediate end to war in Ukraine.
The SNP politician for Ayr, Prestwick and Troon joined fellow MSPs at an emergency meeting on nuclear disarmament.
Ms Brown has strongly urged that no “abhorrent in nature” nuclear weapons are used in any country.
And she has called for an immediate ceasefire in the Ukraine conflict which the UN estimates has killed more than 500.
In a statement Ms Brown said: “We stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine. We are calling on an immediate ceasefire and withdrawal of Putin’s troops from Ukraine, and for every state to commit to not ever using nuclear weapons, as they indiscriminately target civilian populations and are absolutely abhorrent in nature.”
All MSPs were invited to sign the statement by SNP MSP Bill Kidd – co-president of Parliamentarians for Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Disarmament (PNND)last week.
The PNND is an international organisation comprising 70 Parliaments and over 800 members from around the World who engage in working towards nuclear non-proliferation and nuclear disarmament issues.
