Birthday cards for Grace

- ABI SMILLIE

A card appeal has been launched to help mark a 100th birthday.

Dalmellington Care Centre are urging people to send a birthday card to Grace Brown McMillan.

Grace, pictured right, who has lived at Dalmellington Care Centre since 2017, will turn 100 on Saturday, April 9.

Dalmellington Care Centre posted on their Facebook page: “It would be fantastic if she got cards from all our followers.

“Please help us to give her a very special day.”

Grace was born on April 9, 1922 at 6.30am to parents Hannah McMillian (nee Nicol) and Father Mackenzie McMillan. She grew up in Galston with her mum, dad and granny, and loved to attend the dancing.

She went on to marry William (Billy) McMillan and had two children, Jan Scott and William (Billy) McMillan. At the centre, she enjoys arts and crafts and chatting to other residents.

When asked what the secret to long life is, Grace said: “Taking care of yourself; don’t drink, smoke, eat well and stay slim.” Her one advice in life is: “Do what makes YOU happy.”

Birthday cards can be sent to 9 Waterside Street, Dalmellington, KA6 7SW.
