High flats for the refugees

-

If knocking down the“High Flats”made no sense before . . . how much sense does demolition make in the shadow of the shocking events unfolding in the Ukraine?

The UK is poised to receive hundreds – perhaps even thousands – of refugees

who seek nothing more than a safe roof over their heads.

As I write, Glasgow City Council is announcing that it already has ten houses set aside to take in the Ukrainian victims of war.

South Ayrshire doesn’t have ten. Or even 110.

No, we’ve got 210 empty flats – complete with all services – ready for occupancy.

And we’re going to turn them in to the rubble these poor Ukrainians are leaving behind.

I’m told SAC are following COSLA advice on this one.

It should forget what the Confederation of Scottish Local Authorities is doing – and do something by itself.

Big people make big decisions.

So . . . I guess that’s rules us out, then?
