Terror as drunk yob smashes window

- CLAIRE GALLOWAY

A young mum asleep with her toddler at home was left terrified after a drunken stranger battered on her door and smashed her living room window while demanding for a taxi.

Ashlie Todd was in her bed on Hawthorn Road in Girvan when the ordeal began to unfold in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The 27-year-old, whose two-year-old tot Elizabeth was also asleep, was startled by pounding on her door at 2am.

Ashlie said she was shocked when she saw a man with a bloodied mouth from her window.

She said: “I saw a man chapping my door when I looked out of the window.

“He asked me to phone him a taxi and I said ‘I can’t’ and that I had a wee one in bed and he was going to wake her up.”

The thug, who Ashlie believes was drunk, became aggressive when his demands were not met, and subjected Ashlie to a torrent of abuse.

The man then tried to launch her daughter’s scooter at the bedroom window.

Ashlie begged him to leave after making two frightened calls to police.

The young mum’s boyfriend, who had also been sleeping, confronted the man at their door before returning inside.

Ashlie continued: “He ripped out the wooden edging in my garden and smashed it through my living room window.

“The glass was all the way up to the back of my living room.

“It was so scary, I phoned the police for the third time and I was hysterical at this point.

“The police said they were on the way. My boyfriend ran out to catch him but he had done a runner.”

The family home has been left with a boarded-up window in the wake of the incident.

Ashlie, who suffers from anxiety, has been left badly shaken by what’s happened.

She said: “This has made my anxiety worse.

“I never left the house on Sunday, apart from bringing my wee one round to my mum’s.

“I’ve been doing well with my anxiety and this has brought it all back.”

It’s understood the man had also tried knocking on neighbour’s doors before trying Ashlie’s house.

The young mum says she’ll struggle to feel safe until cops have caught the man responsible.

She is urging anyone who may have information, or home security footage, that could help identify him to come forward.

Police have confirmed they were unable to trace the person responsible and say enquiries are ongoing.

A Force spokesperson said: “Around 2.35am on Sunday, 6 March, officers were called to Hawthorn Road, Girvan, following a vandalism.”
