- RYAN THOM

Two crooks posing as bogus workmen conned their way into a pensioner’s home.

The brazen pair managed to dupe the 66-year-old woman at her home in Prestwick’s Lichtenfels Gardens last Wednsday at 4pm.

They knocked on the OAP’s door and pretended to be from Scottish Water.

While inside her home, one of them managed to distract the victim while his accomplice attempted to steal from her.

Suspecting the men were bogus, the woman bravely challenged them and they fled empty handed.

Police want to speak to two men who were driving a white transit van with no signage on it.

Chief Inspector Kevin Lammie, area commander for South Ayrshire, has urged residents to be on their guard following the incident.

He said: “This type of crime is a priority for South Ayrshire police and working with partners, we will continue to target rogue traders and bogus callers who target often the most vulnerable in our communities.”

“I would encourage people to look out for family members, report any suspicious activity and share key prevention messages which include not to engage with any uninvited callers at the door or those who attempt to scam callers over the phone. I would urge anyone with concerns about crime in their community to contact their local policing team.”

The first suspect is described as being of heavy build, with thick black curly hair, with facial hair and of a scruffy appearance. He was wearing jeans and a yellow, high-vis vest over a t-shirt.His accomplice was described as slim and wearing dark clothing.
