Covid-19 jabroll out to children
Children aged five to 11 can now be vaccinated against Covid-19.
NHS Ayrshire & Arran have sent out letters with appointments to parents and carers in this age group.
The move comes after advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) recommending the universal vaccination of these youngsters. Those who have specific medical conditions which place them at greater risk from Covid-19 will be given priority in the rollout that began on March 19.
Children are being offered a paediatric dose of the vaccine, which is a third of the size of an adult dose.
Lisa Davidson, NHS Ayrshire & Arran assistant director of public health, said:”We understand that parents and carers may well have questions regarding the vaccine for their child.
“We are happy to arrange a discussion with a local clinician - any parent or carer that wishes to do this should call 01563 826540.”
