Man, 24, died after getting into difficulty on loch

A devastated dad has told this week how his son was killed in a horror kayaking accident.

Tragic Scott Ferries, 24, of Ayr, died after getting into difficulty in Loch Doon on Sunday.

His dad James said his“wonderful son”, lived for his family, friends and dog, Roxy, and loved spending time outdoors as well as being a handy mechanic in the family business, Somerset garage in Ayr.

Tragic Scott Ferries, of Ayr, died after getting into difficulty on Loch Doon on Sunday.

His dad James said his son’s boat ‘capsized’ on a camping trip. The 24-year-old was out with a friend on the water when disaster struck at the Dalmelling­ton beauty spot around 1.15pm. Mercy crews rushed to the area but sadly Scott was pronounced dead at the scene. Another man was checked over by paramedics but did not require further medical treatment. Heartbroke­n friends and family have paid tribute to Scott, originally from Kilmarnock but who was staying in Ayr.

The popular mechanic and former Auchinleck Academy pupil has been described as a “lovely lad”.

Scott’s devastated dad James posted an emotional message on Facebook, leading to an outpour of tributes. James wrote: “Now the family knows my baby boy Scott has passed away today while enjoying life, up camping and kayaking with his Roxy and friends. Love you baby boy gbnf.”

Shocked loved ones commented on the post paying tribute to Scott who has been hailed as ‘one in a million’.

A relative commented “Love you bro, till we meet again. Now you’re higher than you could ever be down here.”

Another post read: “Rest in paradise you amazing laddie! You were loved by everyone! Get the drifts going bud and keep us all safe we love you bro.”

Another person posted: “Rip Scott Ferries! A great mechanic and a great person.

“Absolutely devastated for you and your family.”

Scott is the youngest of five, with three older brothers James Junior, Kyle and John and older sister Angela.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Officers received reports of two men in difficulty in the water

Now the family knows my baby boy Scott has passed away

at Loch Doon, Dalmelling­ton, around 1.15pm on Sunday, March 27.

“One man died at the scene. The other man was checked over by paramedics but did not require further medical treatment.

“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal but there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstan­ces.”
