A pint of Tennent’s was reasonably priced at £3.30, with a packet of Walkers crisps setting you back 50p — or £1 if you get two bags like I did!

The one thing that struck me about the place was the community spirit. Everyone who was in knew the place like the back of their hand and the staff knew most of the punters by name.

I attended during a football game and as the half-time whistle blew, trays of rolls, sandwiches and sausage rolls were hitting the table. Marvellous.
