Bullen: Players owe supporters a long overdue Somerset win

- STUART WILSON

Lee Bullen reckons Ayr United owe their Somerset support three points under the Friday night lights.

The Honest Men can take a giant step towards Championship safety by beating Hamilton Accies.

To do so, they’ll have to register a first win on home soil since January 8 – Bullen’s first game in charge.

But the boss is determined his side take the chance to move seven points clear of relegation danger.

He told the Post: “A lot will be said this week about our home form.

“It’s up to us to put that right and what better way than with a great opportunity like this.

“We feel we owe our home fans a little bit and Friday gives us the perfect chance to do that.”

Ayr can put clear daylight between themselves and Dunfermline in ninth spot if they are able to take care of Accies.

And Bullen added: “Nothing will be won or lost in terms of the season on Friday night, but we know how important a step we could take. We’ve got an honest bunch of players who just want to do well for this club and I think you’re seeing it in their performances.

“There is a belief among them that no game is ever lost and, as you saw at Morton on Saturday, they will keep going to gain vital points. We will keep our feet grounded as we always do and no matter the result on Friday, we still have a massive four games to come after that.

“But we know this is a big chance to lay down a marker and set the right tone ahead of those games.”

Ayr will once again be without Sam Ashford, who completes his two-match suspension. Tomi Adeloye’s badly bruised foot will be monitored this week in the hope he can once again play a part following his 25-minute cameo at Cappielow.

Ben Dempsey is undergoing rehab for his thigh injury but could be fit for the final three or four games.

Blaine Rowe has undergone a scan on his hamstring strain.
