Teen girls vicious attack on train

- ABI SMILLIE

Two teenage girls launched a vicious attack on a terrified victim on board a train.

The teenagers pursued a female, grabbed her by the hair, punched her on the head and even pulled her clothing, which the victim said made it hard for her to breathe.

The pair, who cannot be identified for legal reasons because they are aged 17, appeared at Ayr Sheriff Court last Wednesday where they both admitted the assault.

The attack occurred on a ScotRail train between Barassie and Newton-on-Ayr stations on March 26 , 20021.

The court heard the assailants, who live in Ayr, boarded the 10.30pm service from Glasgow to Ayr.

The victim and her friends spotted and recognised one of the accused.

A dispute amongst two groups ensued and as the victim returned to her seat, the two girls followed her and punched her several times to the head.

They seized the victim by the hair, dragged her by the hair and repeatedly kicked her on the body.

CCTV footage captured the assault from different angles.

And, as the train approached Prestwick Town, witnesses outside on the platform saw the events and phoned the police.

One of the attackers was pushed away by a male in one of the groups.

She then attempted to get back to the victim but the train had arrived at Newton-on-Ayr train station and the victim got off there .

While off the train and at the station, the teenagers pursued the vitcim, punched her, pulled at her hoodie, and restricted her breathing. The court heard the victim did not require any medical treatment but did have swelling to the back of her head.

The two assailants will return to court next month for sentencing.
