Social justice is real issue

-

It seems that the SAC hub that was masquerading as a CAB is now not even pretending to be that now.

Well it was never going to work anyway.

If Martin Dowey ends up leading the new council he knows I’ll be on him to deliver on his promise of a CAB.

But sadly that’s just not the way it works. It takes time.

Officers or councils don’t set up CABs. Independent groups do that.

The group gets endorsed by Citizens Advice Scotland.

And a caring civilised empathetic council supports the group. Anyone spot the problem?

Yes a CAB holds councils’ feet gently to the fire.

And that is just why this SAC don’t want one.

No scrutiny ever. Move along. Nothing to see here. Only there is. Lots to see.

Poor governance.

Senior staff acting ultra vires with impunity. Fit and proper? Not even close.

Independence of a CAB is the very essence of the CAB movement.

I have no doubt we have the people capable in Ayr to form a CAB.

I have met many who could and would be happy to do it. To help these less fortunate.

But the way things are now we’ll need to take over the whole of Hourstons.

The debt problems coming down the line to many people is going to be absolutely horrendous.

And be assured, debt leads to the whole suite of misery of family breakdown, homelessness, health issues. Nightmare stuff.

It’s going to be much worse than 2008 where the problem was mostly rescheduling of too much mortgage debt.

This time it’s going to be instantaneous misery - about simply not having enough cash to feed yourselves or your children.

A complete loss of dignity.

And a food parcel is no way out of poverty.

It’s going to be horrendous. And worse in Ayr.

I only wish we had managed to get a CAB established four years ago at first time of asking.

It is to Brian McGinley, Douglas Campbell and the “non” independents eternal shame that they blocked even talking about a CAB.

None of these people are fit to hold any public office. Nobody should ever vote for any of them.

Because of them and them alone it will not be easy to get a CAB up and running quickly enough to meet the new demand, but set one up we must. And we really should start now. This town has been failed for years.

We need a completely new council, with enlightened educated leadership with a broader skill set. Not one hiding behind empty Burns weasel words but a new true culture of compassion.

We certainly don’t need one man’s vanity pool project On May 5, please drop all your petty decisive party politics and vote only for compassion. John Dunlop, Ayr
