People flock to pick-up a bargain

The latest Handmade in Ayr Market took place on Saturday, April 2 at the Grain Exchange in Ayr’s High Street with a variety of stalls on display to tempt bargain hunters.

During the day there was a stream of customers coming in to browse what was on offer and more than a few left with some eye-catching items and gifts.

With the Coral Scottish Grand National taking place at Ayr Racecourse the same afternoon, the glamour showpiece perhaps took a few shoppers out of the High Street with some retailers saying the area was “noticeably quieter” than usual.

However, those who were in the High Street certainly got value for money with the selection of items on display at the Grain Exchange.

Some stall holders reported ‘fine business’ throughout the day, in what was Handmade in Ayr’s second market of the year.

Now the plan is to host a market once a month from now on.

The big one for the stallholders later this year will be one at the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum in Alloway, on the last weekend in July, when they will be pitching up on the Saturday and Sunday.

The next Handmade in Ayr event will be back at the Grain Exchange on Saturday, May 7.
