Talk of the town from our social media

A furious mum hit out over her seven-year-old son being placed in an ‘isolation room’ without her knowledge after he was demeed to have been disruptive in the classroom. Louise Drysdale

Some kids prefer a quiet space if they are overwhelmed but definitely needs to be used correctly.

Ally Bally

I’m so saddened to hear this. Hope this child gets the support he needs and deserves.

Jax Josstar

What does this learn the children? Nothing. Quiet rooms are not to be used as a punishment.

Pamela Cain

Oh dear this is sad to read. Quite right to take it further.

Tory election candidate Derek Stillie said his party will rebuild Prestwick’s historic steeple if voted into power

Dylan Reid

Is that what a Tory priority is if elected? Honestly? It’s hilarious that the Conservatives waste time on nonsense like this when they should be focusing on real issues that affect the public such as the Tory cost-of-living crisis.

Paul Graham

A little over half a million pounds. I’m sure the money could be spent on a more worthy cause.

Jimmy Millar

Encourage the residents of Prestwick to do marathons, kilt walks etc to raise funds for this. Quite sure the residents of Ayrshire will not want their taxes spent on this cosmetic plan.

Scott Chegg

As a Prestwick local myself I feel I can - with relative certainty and on behalf of the majority of Prestwick locals say that spending £600k on a bit of pointy stone is possibly the worst use of budget I’ve ever heard of. Practically no one cares about this ‘issue’. Ridiculous.

Applicants The RAD Hotel Group’s proposals to build seven new chalets at Lochside in New Cumnock were approved.

William Gregory

They will be stunning

Bill Grant

Wonderful, what an asset to Ayrshire

Doon Valley Railway, situated near Patna, will welcome back visitors to enjoy scenic train trips of the Ayrshire countryside from Monday.

Jim Wallace

Great news. Last time we went up it was closed.

Duane Roger

Is this the one at Dallmellington? I went there several times. Last time I tried driving up to it there was a big tyre blocking the road.

A new ‘banking hub’ could fill the void that will be left when the Bank of Scotland branch in Troon’s Templehill closes later this year.

Gil Connor

Both banks in Maybole closed years ago, no hub mentioned for there. Tracy L McConnell

Why not have one in every town? Prestwick had all four banks close.

A fresh campaign by MSP Sharon Dowey is being mounted to re-introduce railway stations to both Cumnock and Muirkirk. Jim Smith

They both have a station literally 5 and 10 minutes away already, waste of public money to reopen.

Alan MacLellan

With the state of the roads and the amount of traffic around we need to bring back rail transport. Remember the proud boast of not so long ago, pre that maniac Beeching days, that for virtually every town and village you could travel from one to the other by rail! Bring those days back but make rail fairs very affordable!

Alison Bolton

When you consider the proximity of the stations at New Cumnock and Auchileck to the two they want to reopen I think it be a total waste of money which would be better spent on other things.

Prestwick Swimming Pool is to close later this month as a £300,000 upgrade gets under way.

Dawn Telfer

I won’t be going to the new gym in the town centre, so I’m glad Prestwick is getting a facelift. Maybe if they could also sort out the changing rooms too.

Louise Lauchlan

Why would they not have done the renovations over winter so the pool can be open for everyone in the summer months?

Denise Thomson

Terrible timing that it will be shut for the entire school summer holiday and a real shame they aren’t upgrading the pool at the same time since it will be closed.

The ex Clydesdale Bank in Cumnock is set to be transformed into a restaurant.

Ann McKinnon

We need banks for older people who don’t use the internet. The last thing needed is another restaurant.

George Mckinlay

Well I hope they don’t forget disabled access/wheelchair users.
