Skate star Lewis inspires kids
Ice star Lewis Gibson skated into Ayrshire last week to help deliver coaching masterclasses to the region’s brightest young talent.
Lewis, 27, from Prestwick, who represented Great Britain at the Beijing Winter Olympics with partner Lilah Fear, put 58 young skaters through their paces during coaching sessions at Ayr Ice Rink.
The sessions were made possible thanks to the QTS Group who subsidised the cost per person.
Lewis is a member of the firm’s Young Athlete Programme and was only too keen to pass on his tips and advice.
There was also a chance in a lifetime for one special skater, Mia Craig, to receive some tips on how to make it to the top.
Mia, 12, a P7 pupil at Forehill Primary School, enjoyed a private coaching session with Lewis as they put the finishing touches on a routine they’ve been working on.
The starlet bagged third place at a British Championships qualifier in March, at under 15 category.
Now she has a chance to medal again at the British Championships.
Lewis previously choreographed the routine for her to work on as she searches for championship medals.
Proud mum Tomoko said: “It was her first opportunity to showcase her programme choreographed by Lewis. He choreographed Mia’s programme in Canada, in December. He sent her a video to work on it.
“She’s now excited to show this programme at the British Championships and to skate even better than the last qualifier.”
