24 scouts set to jet off for South Korea

- ABI SMILLIE

A group of youngsters from South Ayrshire are set to jet off across the world to take part in three international Scouting events.

Twenty-four young people from Kyle and Carrick Scout District have been selected for the World Scout Jamboree in South Korea in 2023, Explorer Belt Expedition in Romania in 2022 and Blair Atholl International Jamborette in 2022.

Scouts and explorers from 12th Ayrshire Scout Group (Kingcase), 18th Ayrshire Scout Group (St Columba), 28th Ayrshire Scout Group / Tiger ESU (Troon), 31st Scout Group (Loans), 48th Ayrshire Scout Group (Dundonald) and 100th Scout Group / Burns ESU (Alloway) will be taking part in these events.

The World Scout Jamboree (WSJ) is a world organisation of the Scout movement, which will see more than 40,000 Scouts from across the globe come together.

The eager KaCSD Scouts are now busy raising funds of between £1,000 to £4,000 to help cover the costs of travel and event fees, with part of the WSJ fees helping towards enabling a Scout from a developing nation to attend.

Debs Olesen, District Commissioner for KaCSD, said: “Our young people are going to need all the help they can to raise this money – there are only so many times you can reasonably charge Granny for mowing her lawn!”

KaCSD would welcome the support of local businesses and organisations to help send the youngsters on their way. A JustGiving page has been set up with the aim of providing support to KaCSD attending International Camps in the future.
