Classical concert in memory of friend Harry
A classical music concert will pay tribute to a Prestwick musician who sadly passed away during the pandemic.
The Choir of Ayrshire Voices’spring concert‘Requiem in Spring’will celebrate the life of Harry McFarlane, Ayrshire Voices’former colleague and talented musician and composer.
The concert, which takes place at Ayr’s Holy Trinity Church on Sunday, April 24 at 7.30pm, is a performance of Faure’s much-loved‘Requiem’, performed by the choir with its own soloists and guest artist David Hamilton on the Allen organ.
The Faure‘Requiem’is an ideal piece for the group, blending solo and choral singing, with the second half of the programme bringing a change of mood, as pieces celebrate Spring in all its joy.
There will be operatic favourites by Wagner and Mascagni to mark Easter, together with ensembles from light operas by Sullivan and Lehar, and some sparkling Handel songs.
A group spokesperson said:“The concert is a way for the choir to remember a fellow local musician of talent, the late Harry McFarlane, who lived in Prestwick. Among many other musical roles, Harry was a gifted composer who wrote for both voices and instruments.
“Harry was among the first to be taken from us during the Covid pandemic, and the choir now celebrates and remembers a friend whose loss is widely felt.”
Tickets, £10, can be purchased from: 01292 738153, 07730 437984 // song@ ayrshirevoices.co.uk , or from choir members and at the door on the night.
