Public views wanted on caravan park plan
A proposed caravan site on the outskirts of Ayr for travelling people is being put to public opinion.
Cockhill Farm, which is owned by South Ayrshire Council, could be used for the scheme. The authority is seeking views on a suggested layout, location and amenities at the proposed base.
Should the “transit site” get the green light, it would be used as a permanent location for Travellers.
Basic services would be offered including water supply, shared toilets, washing facilities/utility room, and waste disposal. The site would be between one and two acres in size and located on a vast plot of around 120 acres.
Council chiefs say it would provide a “safe space” for travellers and help to reduce unauthorised camps. The authority’s Kevin Carr said: “This transit site would allow us to better meet the accommodation needs of the Gypsy/ Traveller community.
“A dedicated site will also help Travellers access services such as healthcare provision. Our ultimate aim is to support the Gypsy/Traveller community and meet the objectives of the COSLA and Scottish Government joint Gypsy/Traveller Action Plan.” To view a map of the proposed site and to have your say visit www.southayrshire.gov.uk/consultations
