Boozed-up youths trash golf course
Boozy teens vandalised an iconic golf course during the Easter holidays.
The green at Prestwick golf course was left damaged, leading to plainclothed cops and officers riding quads being drafted in.
A hunt for young offenders has now been launched in schools with campus officers leading a probe into the incidents that occurred over the school spring break.
A police spokesperson said: “Following a number of reports of damage on the green at Prestwick golf course, officers engaged with the green keepers and provided additional patrols on quad bikes and in plain clothes. Campus officers are continuing enquiries into the schools to identify the offenders responsible.”
Police say they are now keen to trace where the alcohol was bought so they can take “appropriate action”.
It comes as officers hail a successful crackdown on youth disorder with no serious incidents reported.
A haul of booze was taken from youths after officers stepped up patrols near the famous old Prestwick course, Ayr Academy and Fullarton Woods, Troon.
Extra patrols were brought into force during the holidays as reports of youth disorder soared.
South Ayrshire campus and locality officers joined forces with partners from South Ayrshire Council Thriving Communities and British Transport Police to ease community concerns.
The police spokesperson added: “Youth disorder is a common concern from members of the public and we do tend to see a spike in reports during the school holiday periods. This year with restrictions eased more than the previous two years, we are preparing ahead to address this issue.
“Working with partners we will look to engage with young people through diversion to more meaningful activities run by partners but will also adopt a no tolerance approach to those who continue to engage in anti-social behaviour, particularly where property is being damaged.”
