An Ayrshire figure skating sensation has returned from the British Championships in Sheffield with a silver medal for her efforts.

Mia Craig, 12, who attends Forehill Primary School, snatched a medal and a podium position after a sensational performance in the Girls Under-15 category last Tuesday.

Proud mum Tomoko said: “It was a great way to end a season for Mia. She competed at the British Championships and won a silver medal in under 15 category.

“I think it’s the first time in many years an Ayrshire skater has won a Championships medal.”

Mia’s efforts were helped by Winter Olympics star Lewis Gibson, of Prestwick, who represented Great Britain in Beijing in February.

Lewis helped choreograph Mia’s routine and even gave her a coaching masterclass recently at Ayr Ice Rink.

Tomoko added: “We are so happy with her achievement and she will keep working hard to be the top skater who can represent the country, just like Lewis!”

Mia is a member of Kyle Figure Skating Club and coached by Gillian and Suzanne Otterson.
