Leave mobile at the door

-

Forgive me but I am not some antediluvian, anti technology monster from the intellectual deep but the sad antics in the UK parliament regarding an MP looking at pornography on his mobile in the chamber takes me back to questions I raised when elected to our “August” Scottish Parliament some years ago.

What the blazes are the Speaker of the UK Parliament and the Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament doing allowing mobile phones to be taken into the respective Chambers where MPs and MSPs are supposed to, as elected representatives of the people that sent them indeed elected them, to listen to debates, to contribute to debates, to challenge opponents and governments on evidence to support debating points or Government Proposals and legislation?

In a lot of other areas of key employment it would and should not be allowed.

Imagine a classroom where the teacher…..or the doctor /nurse……...no let’s not go there.!!

Is there any wonder at the depreciating calibre of debate, propositions and scrutiny which seep through to increasingly debilitating Governments’ (both of them)actions, inactions and results because MPs and MSPs attentions are easily allowed to be distracted to follow a particular interesting activity or fetish on a social media that is responsible to no one?

Leave the mobiles at the door! Chic Brodie, Ayr
