ToxicdustinSquare

-

As I walked to the Gaiety Theatre with my wife on Friday, April 30, about 6pm, we came over the Station Brig to find Burns Statue Square filled with a cloud of toxic concrete dust.

A three-man squad of slab layers were working on the new garden on the site next to the Odeon cinema.

They came from an unmarked white Ford Transit van, and they were cutting the slabs with a petrol driven Stihl saw.

Only the saw operator had ear defenders, the other two operatives, standing next to him, had no hearing protection, dust masks or glasses.

Cars parked in the square and passing through were being covered. When I asked them to stop, the man with the saw ignored me and carried on with his harmful activity in a pointedly defiant manner.

Can somebody from the council explain what they have done to ensure the public will never be exposed to such risks to their health in future. Jock Kinmond, Ayr
