Talk of the town from our social media

-

Publican and Post columnist Bob Shields was elected last Thursday as independent councillor to serve the people of Ayr West on South Ayrshire Council. Kathleen McBride Congratulations Bob Shields. Hopefully Ayr will benefit with you on board.

Willie Bone

Congratulations to Bob Shields being elected. He may find out that perceived council mismanagement issues are more related to presiding over investment starved sectors!

Aaron Henry

This can only be good for Ayr . He’s a pub landlord and unlike most politicians knows what it’s like to run a business in a town that’s falling apart . I really hope to see the high street thriving again and having Bob is prob our best and okay chance of reviving it.

Allan Campbell

I never thought I’d live to see ‘common sense’ and ‘South Ayrshire Council’ in the same article.

Sarah Hannah

Well done Bob Shields. I’m excited to see what will happen good for you.

Ronnie Nichol

Get stuck in Bob. Let them away with nothing.

A 60-year-old man has died after falling at an embankment by the River Ayr.

Jenna Cunningham

Absolute tragedy that should never of been able to happen that embankment needs something up to make it safer, thoughts to the man’s family and friends

Mary Boyle

This is so tragic. My heart goes out to the family and friends.

Children were spotted trespassing on a rail line just seconds before a train charges through Maybole Railway station.

Amanda Missy Carey The thing is if they got hit their families will be campaigning against everything and how it should never happen.

Anne Reid

Police should go to schools to warn of the danger many years ago I met an Australian man who lost his legs running across a railway line and I was telling my then young grandson to never play an the railway.

Julie Marg.aret Quinn

They weren’t thinking obviously. Kids make bad decisions all the time, even the kids that have had a decent upbringing. People jumping in quick to judge doesn’t help. That station has cameras, I’ve heard many a bunch of teens been told to move on by the tannnoy system and police contacted. Why wasn’t it done on this occasion?

Willie Bone

Railways can be a fatal attraction for many youngsters. Better to stay off the tracks and keep well away from the edge of station platforms. Trespassers on the railway cannot be prosecuted.

Mohammed Salam

Aha this is very common incident Between Ayr and Irvine as there is so many of them doing anything, I’m one of the witnesses even all the rail staffs as well they don’t even respect others even not the rail staffs. Honestly speaking parents and police should do something of this regards the situation has deteriorated sharply. They don’t even obey the laws at all which is outrageous

Morag Dobing

Well hopefully they get caught and identified on CCTV and then have to pay the £1000 fine , all of it , every penny , by themselves and that should make these delinquents think twice , also the parents should pay as well. God help them and the poor train driver that hits them

Anne Reid

Let’s hope the police talk to their parents about this stupid stupid action may save others lives .

Tributes have poured in for the popular Troon community stalwart and former councillor Nan McFarlane.

XJax Monaghanx

She was a lovely woman rip William John Hendren RIP Nan! It was thanks to you that I’m living an independent life!

Bosses at Ayr’s crippled Station Hotel have broken their silence to the Ayrshire Post and said they want to sit down with council chiefs to end the saga.

Dee Donald

Bill him for the scaffolding now then that would be a start.

Cameron McCririe

Rip it down! It’s a old sandstone building and the amount of work needed to get it inline with new building regulations is unimaginable. Rebuild it from the old sandstone with the new building specs will be much more economical and more cost effective.

Ed Nicol

It’s a disgusting disgrace that this has went on so long. SAC should have enforced a Compulsory Order for £1 by now. Going to run into millions to restore the station.
