South Ayrshire Table Tennis Club has issued an appeal for new members.

They’ve lost almost their entire Junior section due to two years of Covid-19 lockdowns and restrictions.

And the disruption has resulted in some of their younger players being lost to the sport.

However, head coach Roy Claxton (pictured) and his colleagues have issued a new appeal for members, especially junior ones, to help swell the numbers.

He said:“After two years of Covid, we’ve pretty much lost the Junior section because they couldn’t come along to sessions.

“Now we are starting again, but it’s tough.”

The club is this week celebrating the news that one of its members, Rebecca Plaistow, has been selected to represent Scotland at this summer’s Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Rebecca spoke of her delight at her selection – and the debt of gratitude she owes Roy for all his years of coaching.

She said:“I love South Ayrshire Table Tennis Club and I want to thank Roy for his help support and coaching. He’s someone who would do anything for you.”

Three training sessions take place each week at Mossblown Leisure Centre, on Annbank Road.

Roy said:“We’re still busy but there’s a lack of juniors coming through.”

The club also holds People with Parkinson’s (PWP) sessions on Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings.
