Caddis: We’ve got previous for KO of big guns like‘Nock

- MIKE WILSON

Ryan Caddis claimed Craigmark beating Cumnock was no fluke and insisted: “We were always confident.”

The Dalmellington side held their nerve to win a penalty shoot-out 3-2 after the scores were tied 1-1 in the WoSFL Cup tie.

Cumnock are the region’s form horses with just one defeat in 13 games but they were left stunned by the well organised visitors.

Caddis claimed: “We always fancied our chances and this is a big scalp for us. It’s no fluke – we beat Largs in the Scottish and Irvine Meadow last year in the West.

“Cumnock have been flying but our boys were tremendous and I’m proud of them all. I had half a season as a player at Cumnock and loved my time there as it is an unbelievable club.”

‘Nock led at the break through Jordan

Moore’s eighth goal of the season but a Jamie Barclay OG, under pressure from Jordan Banks, sent the tie to penalties where hero keeper Dylan Caddis made three superb saves.

Ryan added: “Dylan is my youngest brother and a great shot stopper. He saved two penalties against Largs but to save three is incredible.”

‘Nock boss Brian McGinty claimed: “We weren’t good enough in the second-half.”

In midweek, Cumnock fought back from 2-0 down at half-time to draw 3-3 with Glenafton under the Townhead lights.

Sean McKenzie and Hugh Kerr looked to have put Glens in the driving seat but ‘Nock turned the tables through Mark McLennan (penalty) and Moore (2, one pen). McKenzie then curled in the equaliser before being sent off for leading with an elbow.

WHITLETTS are only three games away from a first ever place in the senior Scottish Cup.

That’s the potential prize awaiting if they beat Renfrew in the final of the Strathclyde Demolition Cup at New Tinto Park, Benburb, on Friday, January 27.

The winners go into a round-robin play-off against the East of Scotland and South of Scotland cup winners with the victors lining up in next season’s national competition. And the incentive is to follow Drumchapel, who won last season’s tournament, and now head to Elgin in round four.

Nineteen clubs set out in the Strathclyde Cup which is open to non licensed clubs.

Vics claim the final against Renfrew is arguably the biggest game in their 78 year history.

Meanwhile, Whitletts Vics in the Community have been awarded the highest level of Quality Mark in its latest assessment by the SFA.

The Platinum award covers all the sides from the first team through to all youths and the extensive community work undertaken.

The award covers a range of aspects including, but not limited, to coach education, child wellbeing, community activities and administration.

GIRVAN striker Thomas Donovan is on the transfer list at his own request.
