WOSFL ROUND-UP

- MIKE WILSON

Relentless Auchinleck won’t take their eye off the ball despite being red hot favourites to march into the semi-finals of the West of Scotland League Cup.

Holders Talbot entertain Second Division Craigmark on Saturday in no mood to relinquish their grip on the trophy.

Seven wins in a row have fired them into the Premier League title mix despite being written off after a horror start to the season brought only one win from their opening eight games.

Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Hurlford, thanks to goals from Ewan Thomson and Connor Boyd, was their fifth clean sheet on the trot.

Craigmark head to Beechwood on the back of a 2-0 home defeat by Cumbernauld United which ended a run of four straight wins.

Talbot No 2 Allan McLuckie said: “We take every game as serious as we can whether it’s cup or league and we’ll give them every respect.

“They’ve beaten teams at a higher level before so we know we’ve got to play and be at it from the word go.”

Reflecting on the Hurlford win, McLuckie told Talbot media: “The game was a bit like the weather - it wasn’t the best. It wasn’t easy but we’re delighted with a clean sheet and we move on.”

GLENAFTON bid to leave behind their Premier drop zone battle when they take on Shotts at Loch Park.

Glens, who have signed former Montrose midfielder Craig Johnston, earned a precious safety point in a 1-1 draw away to Rob Roy but remain second bottom.

Trailing at the break, they hit back through a Michael Moffat penalty after Dylan O’Kane was brought down.

Elsewhere in the last eight, DARVEL host Winton while HURLFORD entertain Cumbernauld United.

TROON look to bounce back from a 5-1 defeat away to leaders Clydebank when they head to third bottom Arthurlie who they lead by four points but with a game more played.

The Seasiders, who managed only a goal from Leyton Dunlop, urgently need points to break clear from the drop fight which is lurking behind them.

CUMNOCK have a free weekend after being held 1-1 at home by Largs. Allan MacKenzie gave ‘Nock a half-time lead but a header from Will Sewell, his 18th goal of the season, denied them victory.

WHITLETTS head to Cambuslang in a crunch First Division relegation battle. A win would see Mick McCann’s second bottom side go level with them and set up a nail biting final five games.

MAYBOLE entertain second top Drumchapel and with only one point from their last five games are in growing danger in the basement zone.

‘Bole’s poor run continued with a 3-2 defeat away to Renfrew which leaves them in fourth bottom place. After being twice ahead, they were floored in stoppage time by David McKenna’s winner.

MUIRKIRK return to action after two free weekends with a home clash against Forth in the Second Division.

GIRVAN boosted their safety hopes in the Third Division with a stunning 2-1 win away to leaders Vale of Leven.

Adrift at the break, they roared back through an OG and a late winner from Euan Smith. They now head to Kilsyth Athletic with the chance to open a five point gap over them.

LUGAR made it five wins in a row in Division Four when they beat leaders

Glenvale 2-1 with a first-half double from Ewan McIver.

The Rosebank side will leapfrog Rossvale into third if they continue their fine form with home advantage.
