Community space now starting to take SHAPE

- RYAN THOM

A vibrant new community space in Ayr hopes to celebrate the “cultural tapestry” of Ayrshire through hosting a diverse range of workshops and events.

SHAPE on Newmarket Street is the latest venture by bakery and artisan cafe, Narture CIC. The social enterprise run by father and daughter duo, Saskia and Robert Singer, have been using their loaves for good, with the ‘dough’ earned from the top bakes being ploughed into projects.

And their new project, fresh out of the oven, is ready to offer yet more local people the chance to shine, with their firm belief that “everyone is an artist.”

Narture has taken over the former Greek restaurant Gyros on the cobbled thoroughfare, where they have transformed the diner into a brand new space, with future plans to create their very own restaurant.

SHAPE hopes to create a platform for skill-sharing and personal growth, with a diverse range of workshops and events set to be hosted at the venue.

The new venue also wants to allow individuals to learn new skills, build confidence, and connect with others in a supportive environment.

In addition to its dedication to supporting local talent, SHAPE have also vowed to help revitalise the community by breathing new life into old empty buildings.

Saskia, Co-Founder at Narture CIC told the Post: “We’re incredibly excited to unveil SHAPE to the Ayr community.

“Our vision is to create a space where people can come together to explore their passions, discover new talents, and forge meaningful connections.

“Whether you’re an art enthusiast a foodie, or simply looking for a place to unwind, we hope SHAPE will offer something for you.”

The new venue is set to play host to a diverse range of events fusing food and arts, including exhibitions, pop-up supper clubs, gigs, talks, and creative workshops.

Ayrshire Live previously told how the events space played host to a stunning exhibit from a photographer living with dementia.

Heathfield House Nursing Home resident, Gerard Connelly, 69, was able to share his incredible captures taken of

Ayrshire wildlife throughout the years.

Hundreds poured into SHAPE last week to cast their eyes on Gerard’s magnificent portfolio with Saskia and the team looking to host similar events going forward.

She added: “We’re committed to supporting local talent and celebrating the rich cultural tapestry of Ayrshire.

“Through SHAPE, we hope to foster a sense of community pride and inspire creativity in all who walk through our doors.”
