HARLEY TO MALI
“Is he really coming with us?” That was the comment of one GS BMW rider on seeing a Harley lined up in the Malaga hotel garage. With modest ground clearance, the weight of a dumper truck, and enough chrome to frighten the camels, Ian Mutch joined a group of ‘serious’ overlanders on his Dynaglide Custom to ride across the Sahara to Mali.
Without serious boots, body armour, a ‘proper’ helmet, and only limited riding skills, Mutch chugs happily along through Mauritanian minefields, and down 100km off-road stretches of Harley hell. Frequently lost, and mostly alone, he manages to meet up with his riding comrades by the end of play each day, and the daily reunions provide him ample opportunity to exercise his cruel wit on them in this motorcycle travel book, the collection of which is now developing a dedicated following of mirthmongers.
