CAKE COLLABORATION
Deborah Edwards, of Deborah’s Cake and Sugarcraft, wanted her first cake collaboration to be special, and her theme of the 9/11 US Memorial couldn’t be more special. A relatively small collab, bringing cake artists from England, Germany, Mexico and USA together via social media, the results brought to life the emotive memories of this date in history. 9/11 US MEMORIAL COLLABORATION
“This collaboration is about honouring the US; remembering what the US lost that day, paying tribute to the emergency services or honouring someone that may have been affected by the attacks” Deborah says of the collab. Each of the pieces is rather personal to the artist that made it – each piece conjures up feelings and emotions unique to the artist in relation to 9/11. “My own piece is inspired by a 9/11 US memorial which resides in Essex County, New Jersey, which pays tribute to the search and rescue dogs that were involved following the 9/11 attacks”.
Deborah continues, “It was quite an emotional collaboration experience, not just for me but for the other participants too, we have people whose spouses were in the New York Twin Towers on the day when the attacks happened and who managed to escape. For them to take part and create pieces for the collaboration must have brought about some emotions, for their participation I am very honoured and proud of them”.
