City hoping new year is more joyous

-

BANGOR City will be glad to see the back of 2014.

Although last season saw the Citizens qualify for Europe, the current campaign has been a disaster for Neville Powell’s side who end the year bottom of the Welsh Premier.

This Friday night City entertain Bala Town at The Book People Stadium (7.45pm kick-off) knowing a victory could lift them off the basement, provided the Prestatyn Town v Rhyl result also goes their way.

It will be a tough assignment, however, for the all-Blues, who have yet to win at home in the WPL this term in nine attempts.

Bala, meanwhile, are on course for their best-ever season in the top flight.

They presently lie fourth in the table and could have been higher had their Boxing Day clash with Bangor at Maes Tegid not been abandoned at half time with the Lakesiders leading 1-0.

Town had taken the lead through ex-City striker Lee Hunt’s 33rd-minute header and as the first half progressed had steadily got on top, creating numerous chances.

However, the notorious Maes Tegid pitch had cut up badly and despite surviving a pre-match inspection, heavy rain and occasional snow in the first half had only made the surface worse.

Referee Kevin Parry carried out another inspection during the interval and decided the match could not continue.

It is due to be replayed at Bala on Tuesday, January 13, kick-off 7.45pm. Admission prices will be reduced, details to follow.
