Successful year for club juniors
FAW TROPHY ROUND FIVE Llanrhaeadr YM v Glantraeth. LOCK STOCK WELSH ALLIANCE Div One: Kinmel Bay v Gwalchmai. Div Two: Mynydd Llandegai v Halkyn United, Llannerchymedd v Gaerwen,
ANOTHER successful year for Baron Hill Golf Club’s junior section was recently celebrated. Philip Smith carried out his last duties as junior captain by handing out the honours after what was a busy year of competition for the section, which has 25 members on its books.
Baron Hill continued its long tradition by providing five boys to play in the Anglesey county team.
Three of the boys and two girls represented the club at the Welsh Mini-Masters held at the Celtic Manor in late October, Sion Swain-Williams winning the Welsh Boys 12-plus title.
The Mon Mini-Masters was a great success, attracting a large field with ages ranging from six to 13 and sponsorship has been secured for a further three years.
Junior captain Smith also lifted the Allan Parry Trophy while playing for the men’s Dr Lowe Shield Team.
The junior course record was broken during Smith’s captain’s day, Daniel Benson of Anglesey and Prestbury Golf Clubs carding a 65 gross off a handicap of one. This bettered a record which had stood for eight years.
Junior organisers Liz Youren and Steve Owen were thanked for ensuring junior competitions were held every Sunday from late March until the end of September – almost 30 competitive matches – with both girls and boys receiving county coaching during the season.
