NETBALL – MENAI VAULT INTO SECOND SPOT

MENAI Bridge vaulted up to second in Division One of the Axis Precision Ltd Penygroes and District Netball League last week with a 38-18 victory over Tim o Walis.

Bridge laid the foundation­s for an emphatic success by taking the opening quarter 13-3.

Leading Arfon Ladies made it nine wins out of nine, but had to battle hard to overcome Pwllheli 33-29.

It stood at 8-7, 14-13 and 23-21 at the end of the first three quarters before the champions edged the last 10-8.

PoM: Arfon – Elen Davies; Pwllheli – Lisa Squires.

Holyhead edged a thriller versus Menai Thunder 23-21.

Caergybi trailed 12-10 at half time, but won the third session 7-4 and managed to hold on to win.

PoM: Holyhead – Sue Evans; Thunder – Stephanie Yau-Jones.

Mon-Iars outscored Dreigiau 25-19 thanks to an amazing last quarter performanc­e.

Dreigiau led 14-10 at halfway, then it was 16-16 entering the last, which the Anglesey side won 9-3.

PoM: Mon-iars – Gwenno Hughes; Dreigiau – Mared Williams.

In Division Two, Porthmadog beat Valley Vixens 19-11.

Pwllheli seconds pipped Llanrug 19-18 in a top of the table thriller, Piwmas defeated Amigos 15-8 and bottom side Llangefni Juniors put up a great show before losing 17-13 to Bangor Red Socks.
