Eight-goal rout for a ruthless Cefni outfit

LLANGEFNI Town stretched their unbeaten league run to seven matches over a fourmonth period as they returned from Bethesda Athletic as resounding 8-1 winners last Saturday.

Currently seventh in Welsh Alliance Division Two, Chris Roberts’s side have games in hand on nearly all the teams above them and will aim to continue their fine run when they entertain Mochdre Sports this Saturday.

Having already hammered Pesda 8-0 at home back in October, Cefni approached the return at Parc Meurig with confidence.

Bethesda started well, but once the Anglesey men settled down and got the first goal through a Iwan Jones tap-in, they never looked back.

The rest of the first half was oneway traffic and the visitors were 4-0 up by half-time.

Paul Rowlands and Dylan Williams made the scoresheet and Iwan Jones grabbed his second.

The travellers made a sloppy start to the second period and allowed the hosts to pill one back through Darren Ishmael.

This seemed to wake up the visitors and Craig Evans scored with a trademark header to make it 5-1.

Evans made it a double before Iwan Jones, who was very cool in front of goal all game, added his third and fourth to complete the rout.

In Division One, there was treble misery for Anglesey teams.

Despite going ahead in the 27th minute through Sean Davies, Glantraeth went down to a hugely disappointing 3-1 defeat at lowly Llandyrnog.

The home side equalised in a first half that Glan had largely dominated through a penalty from Daniel Jones.

Dan Roberts made it 2-1 for the Denbighshire side after the break before Craig Jones sealed the victory 14 minutes from time.

Gwalchmai went down 1-0 at Pwllheli, Mark Bridge providing the only goal of the contest on 15 minutes.

Bottom side Llanfairpwll lost for the 19th time in a row and saw their goals against tally rise above the 100-mark after an 8-2 thrashing at Penrhyndeudraeth.

Sion Owen and Carwyn Roberts were on target for the island visitors, who were 7-1 down at half time.

Division Two action saw Mynydd Llandegai take the honours 2-1 at Gaerwen.

Alwyn Roberts and Ben Parker (penalty) sealed the spoils for the visitors.

Amlwch Town were pipped 3-2 at home by Nantlle Vale, Dylan Roberts and Luke McGivern on the mark for the hosts. Vale led 3-0 at half time, Declyn Williams and ex-Bangor City midfielder Neil Thomas (2) with their goals.

Corrig McGonigle keeps firing in the goals for Pentraeth, but his hattrick was not enough to prevent his team losing out 4-3 at Mochdre Sports.

McGonigle struck on five, 45 and 55 minutes, one of his goals a penalty and at one stage Pen led 3-2, but the hosts just nicked it.
