Try-hungry RGC aim for points-fest again

RGC travel to Tondu this Saturday seeking a repeat of the emphatic victory they secured over the Championship’s bottom side earlier in the season.

Last September the Gogs whipped the Bridgend-area team 45-17 at Parc Eirias and will no doubt target another bonus-point success in their quest to climb up the table.

Phil Davies’s side stand seventh after last weekend’s convincing 58-6 beating of visitors Llanharan.

The North Walians were only 10-3 ahead at the interval, but then sparked into life after the break to run in eight tries.

The opening 20 minutes were frustrating for all involved in RGC. Passes were going astray and balls were being knocked on at opportune moments, with at least three tries spurned when the chance was on.

This allowed the visitors to take the lead through Rhys Morgan’s boot.

The home back-line were making breaks, Tom Blackwell and Harri Evans looking impressive with ballin-hand.

And it was the Gogs who claimed the first try when the impressive Afon Bagshaw went over and James Lang landed the extras.

Lang extended the lead as half time approached with a penalty.

After the turnaround RGC looked a different side, with two early scores from Andy Williams and Tiaan Loots, and another Lang conversion, providing a clear signal of what was to come.

Morgan slotted another penalty for the visitors to make it 22-6, but the Gogs were making dangerous runs and pushing for the bonus point.

Try number four came from Cam Davies and the scrum-half then made telling burst before offloading to substitute Shaun O’ Rourke, who scored with his first touch of the ball.

RGC were breaking the gain-line time and time again, and unlike in the first half, the players had the composure to move the ball at the correct moments.

Evans was next up with a brace of tries as he outpaced the Llanharan defence to dot down twice.

Bagshaw was putting in a huge performance, and his ability to take the ball and run at the defence was of the highest standard.

It was proving a tough end to the game for the visitors and it did not get any better for them when Lewis Barker came on as a replacement.

He lit up the Eirias pitch with some good footwork and fellow sub Andy Baston notched a try after nice skills from Barker. Lang added his fifth conversion of the game.

The final score was from Blackwell. The winger has been in good try-scoring form over the past few games and he continued this with one on the final whistle.

Another big-scoring game for RGC with nine tries to please the crowd.
