Hotspur aim high after an Oval booster

-

VICTORY for Holyhead Hotspur at lowly Llandrindod Wells this Saturday could push the Harbourmen up to a season’s highest fifth place in the Huws Gray Alliance – provided other results also go their way.

Campbell Harrison’s side will certainly travel to Powys in good spirits, having earned an outstanding 0-0 draw at title hopefuls Caernarfon Town last weekend.

The first half saw Town’s Darren Thomas shoot just wide on three minutes, then Hotspur’s Alex Jones headed straight at Paul Pritchard soon after.

From a corner, Caernarfon defender Gareth Edwards put a free header wide.

Hotspur rallied and on 26 minutes Kenleigh Owen’s good effort was stopped by Pritchard before Gareth Jones-Evans went for placement and narrowly missed.

The visitors began the second half promisingly, Rhys Roberts going close from an Owen free kick.

At the other end Ywain Gwynedd fired against the post.

Holyhead always looked menacing on the break and Owen blasted over on 65 before Mike Edwards hit a shot at pace but straight at Pritchard.

The Anglesey side were suddenly forced to defend as the home team pushed forward looking for that important winning goal.

Hotspur were making some great blocks – the back four outstanding while heroic keeper Carl Jones was producing some outstanding saves, one in particular from Edwards and another from substitute Carl Owen.

The referee added seven minutes to the 90, but never-say-die Hotspur held out for a deserved point.

More good news for the Harbourmen is the return to the club of midfielder Jay Gibbs from Caernarfon Town.
