Valley into the semis

VALLEY and Penbont Celts will contest one of the North Wales Coast Sunday Challenge Cup semi-finals on March 8, at Valley’s Cae Mwd ground.

The rivals’ progress to the regional knockout’s last four stage came after battling performanc­es in their respective third round ties.

Valley triumphed 2-1 over Mountain View from Mochdre, thanks to goals by Mark Hamblin and Greg Parry.

Penbont overcame Amlwch’s Adelphi Vaults 4-1 on penalties after the sides had been deadlocked at 3-3 through extra time.

Conquering Celts gained their goals in open play from Mike Holroyd (2) and Paul Edmunds, while Adelphi’s scoring aces were Ryan Folksman, Sion Thomas and Martyn Byast.

But two other North Gwynedd and Anglesey hopefuls fell by the wayside in the Coast tournament.

Arriva Buses Bangor were outgunned 7-2 by Rhyl’s North Wales Inn, despite replies by Matthew Jones and Liam Roberts, while Victoria Bethesda were eliminated 4-1 by trophy holders FC Mally.

In the domestic league, Treetops Benllech valued a Piers Dudley hat-trick as the main feature of a 4-2 away win over struggling UMCB, Iolo Owen getting the other goal. Kyle Davies and Rhodri Gruffydd replied.
