IOAN HUGHES was a hat-trick hero as leaders Bro Goronwy boosted their title ambitions with a 5-0 victory at Holy Isle.

In tough, windy conditions the deadlock was broken after 33 minutes, Graham Hughes winning possession and feeding Ioan Hughes, whose shot was too good for keeper Chris Farrell.

Bro doubled the lead moments before the interval, Hughes cutting in and firing low past Farrell.

The match was all over as a contest after 67 minutes as Hughes lashed in his hat-trick strike.

Sam Regan sent the ball through a packed area and narrowly over the goal-line for 4-0, before full-back James Williams’s controlled curled shot sailed into the top corner.

In Group One of the Bwlch Carboot Trophy, Cemaes Bay pipped Trearddur Bay Reserves 2-1 at School Lane.

Kieran Thomas netted on seven minutes for Cemaes and Dan Jones made it two after 75 before Jordan Jones pulled one back, but to no avail.

William Hill Elias Cup quarter-final action saw Valley thrash Llangefni Town Reserves 7-1.

Valley went ahead when Gareth Wyn Roberts released Adam Roberts, who was pulled down resulting in a penalty which Casey Boylan dispatched with ease.

Gareth Wyn Roberts calmly slotted home number two before adding another after a Tommy Jenkins shot was blocked.

Tommy Jenkins showed great footwork before lashing in number four.

The second half started like the first with the hosts on the attack, and hardworking Gareth Wyn Roberts teed up Tommy Jenkins for his second.

Shaun Jenkins then set up brother Tommy for his hat-trick. Shaun Jenkins was later brought down in the box and Ashley Hughes converted from the spot for 7-0.

Arwel Hughes curled home a quality consolation goal for Cefni.

Last Wednesday saw a tremendous battle at Llangefni where Gaerwen Reserves ran out 5-4 winners in Bwlch Carboot Trophy Group Two.

Gaerwen scored all their goals in the first 40 minutes.

Greg Parry tucked one away before Sion Morris and Garry Griffiths added to Cefni’s woes. Jason Williams replied only for Gaerwen’s Morris to bring up his hat-trick.

Iwan Williams hit back for Llangefni to make it 5-2 at the interval.

After the break Cefni were a different side, Gerallt Roberts netting their third from 25 yards on 55 minutes.

With 11 minutes left Arwel Williams made it 5-4 from the penalty spot, but Llangefni could not equalise.

Five Anglesey teams feature in the NWCFA Junior Cup quarter-finals.
