MENAI Bridge went top of the Axis Precision Ltd Penygroes and District Netball League’s Division One last week after producing a stunning performance to thrash champions Arfon Ladies 42-19.
After winning the first quarter 9-6, Menai turned on the style to take the second 10-3 and lead 19-9 at half time.
It got even better for the Bridge in the second half as they breezed the third 11-5 and stormed the last 12-5 to inflict what was surely the heaviest-ever defeat on Arfon.
Having won all their previous nine matches, Arfon were left shell-shocked as a Menai side led by player of the match and chief goal-getter Laura Webber coasted to victory. PoM for Arfon was Rachel Southall. The Penygroes derby saw secondplaced Primos overcome next-bottom Piws 23-14.
Primos easily topped the opener 10-2, but Piws hit back to edge the second 4-3.
Primos took the third 4-2 and the last finished 6-6, so it was that first quarter that proved crucial for the winners.

Dolgellau had no problems sweeping aside Tim o Walis 21-3. PoM: Dolgellau – Lois Wynne; Walis – Annes Sion.

In Division Two, Valley Vixens were relieved they built a good early lead over Llangefni Juniors.
Vixens were 5-0 up after the first and 11-3 at the end of the second, but Llangefni took the third 4-2 and then really raised their game in the last, which they topped 9-5. In the end, Valley were glad to claim an 18-16 win.
Valley – Emma Butcher; Llangefni – Gwenlli Griffith.
Bangor got past Amigos 20-11 in a match where three of the quarters were very close, but an 8-1 outcome to the Red Socks in the second proved vital.

Arfon Celts beat Menai Mavericks 17-12 in another close battle where a 7-2 first quarter to the winners made the difference.

In a Lleyn derby, Pwllheli seconds produced a big second half to dismiss the challenge of Porthmadog 17-8.
Pwll led 5-4 at the end of the first and just 7-6 at the split.
