Dynamic first-half display sets up

GLANTRAETH travel to fellow FAW Trophy quarter-finalists Llanberis this Saturday with a chance of breaking into the Welsh Alliance Division One top five if all results go their way.

Warren Gibbs’s side were in ruthless first-half form last Saturday as they whipped Glan Conwy 5-1 at Bodorgan.

The home side went ahead after just two minutes as Gareth Owen headed Richard Owen’s free kick back across the box with Rory Courlander and James Burgess both appearing to get a touch before the ball crossed the line.

The goal was later awarded to Burgess.

The lead was short-lived as within a minute confusion in the home defence left Mezz Knight with an easy tap-in.

Possession was pretty even but it was Glantraeth who were making the better chances, Neil Hughes glancing a header wide on 17 minutes from a Courlander cross.

In the 27th minute Gareth Owen headed home to put the Anglesey side back in the lead as he rose to meet a corner taken by Brendun Hogan.

Two minutes before the break, Burgess got his second

Pic: ALED JONES and seventh in six games as he was the end of a free kick from Richard Owen.

Rght on half-time Courlander scored with a superb individual effort to make it 4-1 at the interval.

Courlander ran through the heart of the Glan Conwy defence and although the keeper did well to save his first shot he could not keep out the follow-up.

The visitors began to enjoy a fair amount of the ball after the interval without really troubling the home rearguard although keeper Ben Heald was called on to punch away a good effort from Nathan Smith just past the hour mark.

The islanders went 5-1 up on 75 minutes as Jamie Steel cut in from the right and finished well.

The away keeper made good saves from James Stewart and Mark Prescott as Glantraeth finished strongly and it should have been six to the Bodorgan side in the final minutes as Hogan was chopped down in the box only for the same player to have his spot-kick all too easily saved.

Glantraeth have signed defender Tomos Clarke from Colwyn Bay.
