Bay hang on for win

-

THERE was a real treat for Groundhop UK visitors at Trearddur Bay United’s Lon Isallt ground as the home side defeated St Asaph City 4-3 in a Welsh Alliance Division One thriller last Saturday.

Bay romped into a 4-0 lead before Saints battled back to run the Anglesey side close in this battle of promoted teams.

Over 300 spectators saw Trearddur take a fifth-minute lead when Jordan Murphy beat his man out wide and whipped in a dangerous ball from the right wing which caught out the keeper and flew directly into the net.

In the 17th minute Casey Boylan found Asa Thomas, who smashed in number two.

Thomas banged in his 10th goal of the season at the second attempt after his first shot was blocked to make it three on 27 minutes.

Just a minute into the second half Curt Williams turned smartly and finished tidily from the edge of the box to put the islanders four to the good.

Jamie Jones replied for Asaph soon after and this game them a huge lift.

On 73 minutes Brett Jones halved the deficit when he capitalised on a Bay defensive error.

A nervy finish was in store after Bay defender Richard Williams inadvertently chipped his own keeper, allowing Jamie Jones to pounce and make it 4-3.

Only a fantastic block by Richard Williams in the closing stages prevented Saints from grabbing an equaliser.

Too close for comfort for Bay, but they remain unbeaten with three wins and two draws in their first season in Division One.
