Anyone with an interest in photograph­y is welcome to attend or for more informatio­n EMail cefnicamer­aclub@gmail.com WRITE ON: Group member and secretary Cherry Bevan led a really enjoyable session recently for the ‘Write On!’ AgeWell writers’ group at the Town Hall, Llangefni. She took as her starting point random advertisem­ents for items for sale. Members chose a named sale object and then devised the initial catchy advert. From this everyone was inspired to branch out and develop background stories and interestin­g characters, and these results were all intriguing, richly varied and amusing. Everyone was amazed and delighted how well their writing had been inspired by Cherry’s skilful planning from everyday items! INNER WHEEL: After welcoming all members to the meeting after the summer break President Sally Roberts installed Nora Milburn. Amongst the correspond­ence received by Secretary Delyth were thank you letters from Air Ambulance, Ty Gobaith, Carers Outreach, Action for Children [Young Carers], and Born Free Foundation. “Mary’s Meals” continues to be the the principal overseas charity of choice and there was a lively debate on how to improvecur­rent method of preparing the backpacks, which are a prerequisi­te for children being able to attend school and where they are fed a substantia­l mid-day meal, and to ensure uniformity of quality. The jury is currently out on this one but watch this space! Dates for the annual Bridge Drive and the Garden Party are fixed as Wednesday March 16 and Saturday June 11, 2016. The next meeting will held at Nant-yr-Odyn on Monday October 5, at 6 for 6.30pm when Susan Whalley will speak about The Red Cross. CIVIC SOCIETY: Menai Bridge Civic Society Garden Party on Saturday Sept 19 is at Plas Cadnant Hidden Garden by kind permission of the President of the Society, Anthony Tavernor. Opening the event is Rhun ap Iorwerth AM and there follows, music by Menai Bridge Senior Band, Flower arranging displays by Carole McKenna of Florabunda­nce, Gardeners’ questions and advice with Medwyn and Gwenda Williams (Chelsea medallists), Philip Brown former head gardener at Portmeirio­n, and Jo Davidson Welsh Historic Garden Trust. Val. Hopkins (artist) will do portrait sketches of visitors and Rhiannon Môn Jones is illustrati­ng traditiona­l uses for plants and leading short botanical trails. MEMORIES: – Menai Heritage, which runs the popular Bridges Exhibition is planning an evening event where local residents can get together to share their memories of the town. As part of their major new project “Menai Bridge Memories” a Facebook group was set up to allow those online to share photos and memories of growing up and living in the town. Menai Heritage is now planning a series of informal drop in sessions at the Thomas Telford Centre, which will provide people with an opportunit­y to meet in person and exchange memories. The first event takes place between 5.30pm and 8pm on Wednesday September 16 at the Thomas Telford Centre. Refreshmen­ts will be provided. Business and messages were quickly despatched, including notices of Eglwys Bach activities, as a more united approach to village affairs is high on the agenda. Lorrie Williams, an Outreach Officer of the Welsh Assembly Government, then gave a brief but very clear descriptio­n of the constituti­on and remit of the Government. Tea was served for the first time in the café, which provided a relaxing environmen­t. The next meeting, on October 14, will be addressed by Alison Farrell of Trading Standards, and followed by a plants and produce exchange, to which members are invited to bring their garden surplus Choral Society have their weekly rehearsals on Thursdays from 7pm to 9pm at St Ffraid’s Church Hall.
