Bangor safe as Mostert shines

FRANCOIS MOSTERT hit a remarkable unbeaten 202 as Bangor secured their North Wales Cricket League Premier Division status in the most emphatic fashion imaginable with a huge win at Mochdre.

Mostert shared in a second-wicket stand of 328 with Andy Savage (127) as the visitors set 361-2 off 50 overs.

Mochdre were then restricted to 206 all out, Gareth W Edwards taking 4-43 and Subhan Khan 4-71, the citizens claiming the points 15-0 to ensure they finished fourth bottom.

Champions Menai Bridge collected a 14-1 victory over Northop which sent the visitors down to Division One.

Dion Holden struck 46 and Matt Bixby 44 as the Anglesey side set 184 all out off 47.4 overs.

Gerallt Roberts then snared 5-27 and Ashley Wood 3-19 in bowling out the Flintshire side for just 101.

In Division One, Bethesda enjoyed a narrow two-wicket success over Menai Bridge seconds, 166-8 playing 165 all out.

Bodedern conceded their game at Llay Welfare.

Bangor seconds won their Division Three encounter with Connah’s Quay seconds 10-0 after their opponents failed to fulfill the fixture.

Anglesey Aluminium completed their impressive end to the campaign with a 6-4 home triumph over Bethesda seconds in Division Four.

Nine-man Pesda won the toss and elected to bat, Jez Shea their only double-figure scorer with 46 in a low total of 86 all out off 27 overs.

For the Holyhead side, the impressive Dafydd Rhys Spens topped the per- formance list with 4-32 off 12 overs, fellow new-ball bowler Liam Bibby picking up 2-23.

Anglesey Aluminium found the going far from easy in their reply as they lost wickets at regular intervals.

At one stage the hosts were 45-5 and then 72-7 before Antony Parry (12 not out) and Danny Dumbarton (7 no) saw them past the finish line without further loss on 87-2 off 24.2 overs.

Danny Williams (19), Spens (16) and Chris Rowlands (14) also played their part in a bits-and-pieces effort which proved good enough for the works team.

Richard Lee Williams did extremely well with the ball for Bethesda, taking 5-43 off 12 overs, while Andrew Day scooped 2-34.

Anglesey Aluminium ended up sixth in the table, while Pesda finished in fifth place.
